Each block is a field of work, sized by how many roles are advertised and coloured by pay or by whether it's growing (use the Colour switch). Search for anything, then click a block to see the roles inside it, what each one is, how people get in, and the trend since 2017.
Pay shown is the median annual salary across all employees in each role (ONS earnings data). Roles that are commonly part-time — like some retail or hospitality jobs — therefore show lower annual figures, reflecting fewer hours worked rather than a low hourly rate.
Block size is the number of online job adverts in the latest month (ONS "Labour demand volumes by SOC 2020", from Textkernel), grouped into broad fields of work. Pay is the typical advertised/earned median from ASHE. "What the work is like" and "routes in" come from National Careers Service profiles.
The volume data updates monthly, roughly 4–6 weeks in arrears; pay refreshes yearly. It shows advertised demand, not total jobs — one vacancy can appear as several adverts, and a large share of hiring is never advertised, so this under-counts senior and network-driven roles. It cannot show contract type, entry-level suitability, or links to apply.
